Robert Tarule’s book, The Artisan of Ipswich: Craftsmanship and Community in Colonial New England is the only book-length study of Thomas Dennis, the most famous of early Ipswich craftsmen. It is a lively and engaging account of how Dennis made a 17th-century chest, and how he and other woodworkers shaped the town we live in today. Robert Tarule’s talk will draw upon research that he did for the book but that was not included in it, as well as his current work and experience.
